The IVORS Composer Awards 2022

The Ivors Composer Awards, the UK’s foremost celebration of creative excellence in contemporary classical, jazz and sound arts.

The winners of 20th edition of The Ivors Composer Awards were announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday 15 November at the British Museum in London.

Each winner received an Ivor Novello Award. Recognised as a pinnacle of achievement since they were first presented in 1956, an Ivor represents peer recognition as they are judged by fellow composers and music creators.

The nominations were announced on 18 October across nine categories. 46% of the composers in the running for an Ivor Novello Award this year are first-time nominees.

In addition to the nine categories, three composers were recognised for their sustained contributions to music. Sir George Benjamin received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Works Collection, presented in association with the Music Publishers Association. Judith Weir was honoured with Fellowship of The Ivors Academy and Talvin Singh received the Ivor Novello Award for Innovation, presented in association with the Musicians’ Union.

IVORS Week: ‘Behind The Songs’ Event

Available on Stabal TV, the Ivors Week’s ‘Behind the Songs’ opening event featuring man of the moment, UK Eurovision star Sam Ryder, was recorded at the venue Amazing Grace, London.

Gathering 100m+ global streams, 18m followers on social media, singer-songwriter Sam Ryder has become a household music name on TikTok.  The singer-songwriter, impressively came second in the 2022 Eurovision Grand Final – the nation’s highest place for more than two decades following years of ‘nul points’.

Having been beaten by Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra, he even revealed that he’s in discussions with the band to collaborate on a new track. Following his glorious performance in Turin, Sam has the entire country behind him, and SPACE MAN managed to place in the Top 5 following the show.

‘Behind the Songs’ will see Sam in conversation with presenter Nada  to discuss his early influences, creative process, collaborating, and how he’s built such an incredible profile.

The broadcast will also feature performances from Ivors Youth Council members, Hope Winter, IMOGEN and Kizzy Crawford in celebration of the creative talent within the Ivors community.

Ivors Week celebrates songwriting and songwriters and supports The Ivors Academy Trust to create new opportunities for emerging talent.
